This summer was an adventure.
Between starting a new job and buying my first house, not to mention dodging the horde of gnomish assassins after me, I got pretty overwhelmed for a stretch. For that reason, I didn’t communicate very well. On the bright side, I also have good news: the conclusion of the Ember Sea Trilogy, Sun’s Fall, is done and will be released September 23! In celebration, Serpent’s End, will be free September 21-September 23, so if anyone has the most remote desire to check out a pirates and dragons COMPLETE trilogy (I’m excited to be able to say that), then there’s no excuse! I am sorry it took as long as it has for it to come out to you, but I feel good about the conclusion of the series. I don’t want to hype anything too much, but those that read it felt it was the strongest book! In other news, I’ve started my next series. It is a vampire progression series combining some of my favorite parts of Cradle (shocking, I know), the Innistrad MTG set, and Diablo. Hopefully that doesn’t tip my hand too much, but I think it will be fun to read and write. Progress will be slower than this year given some real time restraints, but I do want to keep giving you stories! For those of you that took a chance on Serpent’s End and have stuck around to see it done, thank you! This has been a blast, and not just because of the glorious cover art. Happy reading! Lorn

Hello all!
The release of Ember’s Rise is going well and I’m thrilled that some of you have already burned through it and enjoyed your experience! I can’t thank you enough for your support and please do recommend it to anyone you think might like pirates and dragons. I’m hard at work wrapping up Sun’s Fall for my beta readers and should have some more information about it available soon. One of my goals with writing the blog is to communicate with people who enjoy my books and to let them know a little more about me. Given that most of the posts thus far have been keeping you all informed about releases, I thought I would change it up a bit today. I’ll start with a confession: I haven’t watched very much anime. Before too many pearls are clutched, yes, I watched and enjoyed Dragon Ball Z. Other than that, I’ve watched a few more that my friends have pushed on me, including most of Bleach, the first two seasons of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, a good bit of My Hero Academia, and a smattering of Gundam Wing when it was on Toonami. Maybe that’s more than most people have watched, but after years of hearing my friends wail and gnash their teeth over my limited exposure, I’ve started watching more. Right now, I’m working my way through Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War and I love the animation. Bleach combining cool powers with sword fighting won me over when I watched the show in high school and it’s still an easy sell. After that, I’ll cave to the demands that I watch Jujutsu Kaisen. Out of my love for pirates, I have strongly considered One Piece. The spirit is willing, but my body is far too weak to watch that much material. Maybe once I find a way to stop sleeping, I’ll check it out. Let me know what you are watching/reading, other than Ember’s Rise, of course. Currently Reading: Omniscient Reader Currently Playing: World of Warcraft, Season of Discovery (My friends rolled on a PvP server. Help.) and Magic Outlaws of Thunder Junction draft Currently Listening: Blackflame by Will Wight, read by Travis Baldree If you’re here, you likely already know that my second book, Ember’s Rise, came out today. But just in case you find it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D22PC3TM
It’s a strange feeling to let this one out into the wild. While Serpent’s End was under development for far longer (just ask Will), Ember’s Rise was written right before my daughter was born and then it’s what I came back to once she started daycare part time. So, in a way, it was written over the course of some pretty big transitional moments. It was also interrupted quite a bit by a very cute baby. All that said, I feel good about the book and think you’ll enjoy it. It’s one of my goals to improve with each book I write and I believe I did so here. The giveaway for Serpent’s End is also still ongoing today (April 24), so, if you know anyone on the fence about the series, now would be a good time to try and pull them in. In other news, I am nearly finished with the second full draft of Book 3 entitled Sun’s Fall. It will be the conclusion to the Ember Sea Trilogy and brings the consequences of Ember’s Rise to fruition. Please check out my social media for updates and sign up for the newsletter and I hope you pick up Ember’s Rise and enjoy the ride! Happy Reading! Lorn Ember's Rise will be released April 24!
I wanted it to be sooner, but ran into some delays with illness, so I wasn't able to let you all know the exact date until I had everything in line. On the bright side, that means that the preorder is up now! You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D22PC3TM As usual, it will take Amazon a little bit for all my information to be entered, so you may have trouble finding it without the direct link. Also, the paperback is going to take a bit more time for the preorder to be arranged. There are a few more updates I think I should share as well. I have received over fifty reviews now on Serpent's End and am thrilled with you feedback. In particular, I want to thank those people who made a written review and/or wrote to me via the website. Also, you'll (hopefully) be happy to know that I'm hard at work on the final book of the trilogy and I expect to have that out this summer. As a final note, I will be putting Serpent's End up for free on April 23 and 24, so if you know anyone on the fence about trying out the series, that would be an ideal time to check it out and see if they want to pick up the sequel. I'll be talking to you all again very soon. In the meantime, please encourage those people you think may enjoy the series to check out Serpent's End and possibly pick up Ember's Rise. Happy Reading! Lorn The best things in life…and my book are free!
For Monday 2/12 and Tuesday 2/13 the eBook of Serpent’s End will be available FREE on the Kindle store. So, if you have any friends that were on the fence about buying it, generally skeptical of dragons (or pirates), or just generally like free things, please let them know about the sale! I’m excited to get the book in as many hands as possible and I have even more good news! Book 2, Ember’s Rise, is coming along faster than expected. Let’s just say April is a great month. Happy Reading! I can't help but hear "What's next?" in Martin Sheen's voice, and, yes, I have watched way too much of The West Wing. Still, it's an important question when you release the first book of a trilogy. The good news is that Book 2, Ember's Rise, is coming soon!
In true reader fashion, I’ve already heard some interest in Book 2. Just in case you haven’t gotten to the end of Book 1, I’ll keep this spoiler free, but I wanted to let you know that it’s pretty much complete! At present it is roughly the length of Serpent’s End, though I’ll likely trim some fat in the final review process. What’s also exciting for me is that the cover art for Book 2 is being worked on as I write. I can’t wait to see what’s been cooking and I’ll share it with you asap! Serpent’s End has been out for a week now and I exceeded my goal of two hundred sales in the first week! More reviews are also coming in and that’s hugely helpful and (often) a nice morale boost! I’ve said it in some other posts as well, but I’m very grateful to you all for picking up the book and checking it out. In the meantime, I’m still promoting the first book on all the nooks and crannies of the internet interested in a fantasy book about pirates and dragons. If you do know anyone that might be interested, please suggest they check out the book, leave a review, or begin a time deceleration ritual to help me get the next book out faster. All three would be even better! If you want updates on my progress and to stay informed on when my next book is coming out, please sign up for the newsletter! The form is on the bottom of the front page of my website. Thanks again for reading and let me know in the comments what you are most excited to see in Book 2! (Let’s keep it spoiler free for those still sailing on the Ember Sea) I asked my friend, acclaimed author Will Wight (you’ve probably heard of him), to teach me how to write a fantasy novel the summer after the world shut down due to the pandemic in 2020.
It's possible that I should have gone with learning how to bake, but here we are. At the very least, it’s been proven that this was not the cause of the next several months of upended lives and permanent disruption to the Grand Design. I have friends in high places. Trust me. What followed from that fateful request was several years of learning, editing, manic ancient language chanting, and tears of blood. You know, fantasy author stuff. The result is my first book, Serpent’s End! It can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CTPS4R2L I am equal parts excited and nervous to know that people will be reading it. Mostly, I’m glad to get it out of my hands and into yours. That’s the good part. The book is available to purchase digitally for $2.99 on the Amazon Kindle Store or you can grab a physical copy for $16.99. For those of you with Kindle Unlimited, you will also be able to read it that way! The goal of the blog is to keep you updated on what I’m writing, but also to communicate with any people that read the books and find themselves interested in me or the worlds I’ve created. So, if you have questions, please ask them! You can do so in the comments or email me at [email protected]. I also have a Twitter/X, Instagram, and Facebook where I’ll post information about upcoming books and, almost certainly, memes. So, if you found yourself here, welcome! I hope you enjoy the book and I look forward to hearing from you. Happy reading! Lorn |
